Still cooking here. He's getting the dog voice down, swagger and sweetness all in one. I have three labs and I know them and their sweet souls pretty well --- so take my word.
This is me of those great books that forces you to read the next chapter. You think to yourself I'll turn off my light at the end of this one and next thing you know it's 2am. The characters are great, easily imaginable in real life as dogs or people and there's just the right amount of suspense and humour. Definitely read these books, you won't be sorry!!

Being a dog lover; I was a bit skeptical about books written from the dog's point of view and the main character, a dog. I loved all 5 of JK Brandon's books. If you love dogs as much as I do, these are wonderful! Each one involves a murder mystery and how the main dog, (with the help of his other dog friends), works to solve the mystery. It is also humorous when the dogs refer to every day things from their perspective. Very enjoyable read.
For my rave reviews please see the others; but the great thing in this one was the communication between the coyotes and the dogs. I also really enjoyed the author's depictions of the Phoenix-Paradise Valley-Scottsdale area because I lived there in 1981 and have relatives there, and find the descriptions very true to life. I highly recommend these Howl series books. They are very funny too, especially the dogs' perspective on human sexuality, TV and politics!
As my title reveals, I found this a nice easy read. But, if you are looking for a literary masterpiece this isn't it. There are numerous instances of missing words, albeit small words. Most of which you mentally fill in, but can be a break in your reading rhythm. The plot is interesting enough, and you can't completely predict the end. Worth the time to spend an easy summer afternoon.
This is his best book thus far in the series, in my opinion. I could not put it down! Also, no animals died in this book. I hate it when animals die in a book! I really love that these stories are told from the dogs' point of view! I find myself thinking "yes, that's probably the way dogs look at things."
